Sorry To bother you & Freud Essay

One essay from a collection in which Mr. Forney explores the philosophical nature of how we interpret cinema, this piece centers around Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You, Freud’s perception of the unconscious, and Said’s orientalism. All working in tandem to show how capitalistic, ‘mechanism’ societies alienate and fetishize those of minority and working classes. The “mechanism” society is one which oppresses and controls minorities, only allowing them to achieve a certain level of status based on how they adapt to the culture and ethics of the oppressing force. This society within a society is meant to serve the ruling one, therefor from the perspective of the oppressor it is a mechanism, a feature, an addition to their society.
